Created by Scottish artist David Roberts in 1836, this watercolor painting beautifully captures the grandeur and significance of these colossal sculptures. Rameses II, one of Ancient Egypt's most renowned pharaohs, ruled from 1279 to 1213 BC and was known for his prolific temple building. These magnificent statues depict him holding the crook and flail, symbols representing kingship and authority. Each statue proudly displays Rameses' cartouche on its right shoulder. It transports us back to ancient times when religion played a central role in Egyptian society.
