London Zoo has an ostrich for the first time in nearly 2 years.
After being without an ostrich for nearly 2 years, the London Zoo now has a young bird which has been placed on view on a lawn in the centre of the gardens.
The cheque is aged about six months and is under 3 feet in height. It has yet no plumes and is clad in short juvenile feathers, dappled grey and light brown.
It already has the haughty manner characteristics of the ostrich, however, the bird was one of two which arrived recently from Africa. They were upset by the journey and the other died almost immediately. This one has made a for recovery.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous occasion at the London Zoo - the return of an ostrich after nearly two years! The young bird, aged around six months, stands proudly on a lush green lawn in the heart of the zoo's gardens. Although lacking its full plumes, this juvenile ostrich showcases its unique dappled grey and light brown feathers. Despite a challenging journey from Africa that sadly claimed the life of its companion, this resilient bird has made an impressive recovery. Its haughty mannerisms characteristic of ostriches are already evident, adding to its charm and allure. Taken on 3rd August 1938 during the interwar period, this monochrome photograph exudes a sense of nostalgia for simpler times. It offers a glimpse into Europe's past while showcasing humanity's fascination with animals through humor and friendship. The image is brought to us by TopFoto. co. uk as part of their extensive collection capturing moments between humans and animals throughout history. While it evokes laughter with its quirky depiction, it also serves as a reminder of our connection to nature and our responsibility towards preserving these magnificent creatures.
