Rikusho-no-Matsu boat-shaped pine tree - Kinkakuji Temple
The Rikusho-no-Matsu, a 600 year-old pine tree, shaped into the form of a sailing boat. The pine tree was ported from bonsai by Yoshimitsu. It faces west, meaning people could ride the boat to the western pure land. Found at the Kinkakuji Temple, Kyoto, Japan also known as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, formally named Rokuonji Temple (Deer Garden Temple), a Zen Buddhist temple belonging to the Shokokuji Temple branch of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. Date: circa 1908
