Away from Londons atmospheric sale of American grand members of the staff of the Royal Observatory are now studying the universe from the historic Herstmonceux Castle, in the heart of the Sussex countryside. It was decided to use gate to transfer the Observatory from Greenwich its home to 275 years to Herstmonceux because the murky London air made observation difficult. The transfer which entails the installation of much equipment and the erection of the new buildings will not be completed until 1953. The astronomer Royal to Harold Spencer Jones who is supervising removal is himself now in residence at the Castle and report satisfactory progress.
