German WWII ramjet engine blueprint
German WWII ramjet engine blueprint. This design, for the propulsor ramjet engine to be mounted on top of a Dornier Do 217 E-2 heavy bomber, dates from 1942. This and similar designs were developed during World War II by the Austrian-German aerospace engineer Eugen Sanger (1905-1964) and the German engineer Irene Bredt (1911-1983). Their work on jet propulsion and ramjet engines was intended to enable German bombers to reach the USA. The project was known as the Amerika Bomber, and was later named the Sanger-Bredt Antipodal Bomber. None of the designs ever saw action before the end of the war. The text labels are in French

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a German WWII ramjet engine blueprint. The design, created in 1942, depicts the propulsor ramjet engine intended for mounting on top of a Dornier Do 217 E-2 heavy bomber. This innovative blueprint was part of the ambitious Amerika Bomber project, spearheaded by Austrian-German aerospace engineer Eugen Sanger and German engineer Irene Bredt. Sanger and Bredt's groundbreaking work on jet propulsion and ramjet engines aimed to equip German bombers with the capability to reach the United States during World War II. Known as the Sanger-Bredt Antipodal Bomber, these designs were an engineering marvel ahead of their time. Despite their ingenuity, none of these remarkable blueprints ever saw action before the war's end. However, they remain a testament to the pioneering spirit and technological advancements achieved during this tumultuous period in history. The monochromatic illustration exudes an air of secrecy and historical significance. With French text labels accompanying it, this blueprint represents not only Germany's military ambitions but also highlights international collaboration within scientific communities. As we delve into this piece of aviation history, we are reminded of how far technology has come since then. It serves as a reminder that even amidst conflict and adversity, human innovation continues to push boundaries in pursuit of progress.
