EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Vickers Viking 1B passenger airliner, a true pioneer of post-war British aviation. With its sleek design and capacity to carry 24 passengers, this aircraft marked a significant milestone in air travel history. The prototype took flight from Wisley, Surrey on June 22,1945, under the skillful command of Chief Test pilot Mutt Summers. Ordered by British European Airways (BEA), around 40 Vikings were acquired for their U. K. and European services. However, the popularity of this remarkable aircraft extended far beyond these regions. A total of 168 Vikings were built and served airlines across Africa, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. The breathtaking image captured here takes us back to January 1950 when BEA's G-AIVD Venteren soared gracefully over the majestic Alps in Switzerland. Against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and endless skies, this airborne marvel epitomizes the spirit of adventure that air travel brings. Transporting us to an era filled with excitement and wanderlust, this print is not just a testament to engineering prowess but also an ode to human curiosity and exploration. It serves as a reminder that even amidst challenging times like war or post-war recovery periods, innovation continues to push boundaries and connect people across continents.
