The Geisha by Owen Hall

Promotional postcard of The Geisha by Owen Hall; music Sidney Jones produced by George Edwardes. First produced at Dalys Theatre, London 25th April 1896. Edwardes took advantage of the continuing fascination of the public with the orient that had brought such success to Gilbert and Sullivan in The Mikado. However, The Geisha was a more topical entertainment than The Mikado, and despite its great initial popularity, The Geisha did not endure through the decades as well as The Mikado. This image is to promote Mr Mouillots Company touring to the New Theatre Royal Portsmouth on 11th September 1899. Date: 1899
