The FA Cup, the most prestigious domestic football competition in England, had eluded Newcastle United for over two decades. But on April 23, 1910, at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, the Magpies finally claimed victory, defeating Barnsley Football Club 2-0. The image is taken from a rare set of Association Football Players Cigarette cards, produced in the 1930s. These collectible cards, which featured famous footballers of the era, were often given away with packs of cigarettes. This particular set includes 52 cards, each featuring a photograph of a player from a different team, along with their name and position. In this photograph, the Newcastle United players are seen standing proudly in their blue and white striped shirts, holding aloft the coveted FA Cup. The team's captain, Jimmy Smith, is in the center, wearing the armband and clutching the trophy. Surrounding him are his teammates, each with expressions of joy and triumph.
