EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a metal shoulder title from the 20th Burma Rifles, dating back to the years 1923-1937. The photograph is part of the Anglo-Indian School's collection and is currently housed at the National Army Museum in London. The shoulder title itself is a blackened brass badge featuring the unit's number and initials, "20BR" which was issued by the Indian Army Ordnance Corps in 1923. The 20th Burma Rifles came into existence in 1922 through the merger of two units, namely the 70th Burma Rifles and the 85th Burman Rifles, both established during World War One. Interestingly, with Burma's separation from India in 1937, this regiment underwent a transformation and became known as simply "the Burma Rifles". This historical artifact holds immense significance as it represents an important period of transition within both military history and political boundaries. Part of Field Marshal Sir John Chapple Indian Army Collection, this print offers us a glimpse into an era when colonial powers were reshaping their territories. Preserved meticulously at the National Army Museum, this image serves as a reminder of our shared past while honoring those who served bravely under these distinguished titles.
