EDITORS COMMENTS
In this poignant moment at Goodison Park on May 7,2006, a line-up of Everton Football Club players and staff paid tribute to the late Brian Labone during a pre-match ceremony. Labone, a legendary figure in Everton's history, had passed away earlier that year at the age of 65. The FA Barclays Premiership match against West Bromwich Albion was an emotional occasion for all involved, as the Everton community came together to remember and honor the life of their beloved former player and captain. Labone spent 12 years at Goodison Park, making over 400 appearances for the club between 1960 and 1972. He was a key figure in Everton's success during that period, helping the team win the Football League Championship in 1962 and 1963, as well as the FA Cup in 1966. As the teams lined up on the pitch, a minute's silence was observed in memory of Labone. The players wore black armbands as a sign of respect, and the crowd held a banner bearing Labone's name and the number 5, which he wore during his time at Everton. The atmosphere was somber, yet filled with a sense of pride and appreciation for the man who had given so much to the club. This photograph captures the moment of unity and respect as the teams come together to pay tribute to Brian Labone, a true Everton legend. The image serves as a reminder of the enduring bond between the players, the fans, and the history of Everton Football Club.
