EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the Corinthian Football Club team group before their match against West Bromwich Albion on January 31,1920. The players stand tall and proud, exuding a sense of determination as they prepare to take the field. In the back row, we see Hunter, Alfred George Bower, Hollowell, Coles, Kenneth Jackie Hegan, and Norman Creek. Bower stands out as the most capped Corinthian player between the wars and was even honored with five England caps from 1923 to 1927. He later served on the FA Committee from 1928 to 1933. Hegan also made his mark with four England caps and represented Great Britain at the prestigious Antwerp Olympics in 1920. Creek earned one England cap himself and went on to manage British Olympic teams in subsequent decades. Notably, he was one of two broadcasters who provided BBC Radio commentary for an FA Cup Final in 1936. In front of them are M. Howell, J. S. F Morrison, N. V. C Turner (captain), Fred W. H Nicholas, and H. Ashton. Nicholas had a dual sporting career playing cricket for Essex and Oxford University. It is worth mentioning that in 1939 Corinthian merged with Casuals to form Corinthian-Casuals Football Club - a significant moment in football history. Preserved by Colorsport Images/Wilkes Photography Studio this remarkable image allows us to glimpse into a defining era of football where passion met skill on muddy pitches across England's green fields.
