EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Soviet born ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev in August 1970. With his piercing gaze and poised stance, Nureyev exudes an air of confidence and artistry that made him one of the greatest male dancers of his time. Nureyev's journey to success began at the prestigious Leningrad Choreographic School, where he honed his skills before joining the renowned Kirov Ballet as a soloist. However, it was during a tour with the ballet company in 1961 that Nureyev made a daring decision - he sought political asylum in Paris, forever altering the course of his life. This AFP photo not only showcases Nureyev's undeniable talent but also serves as a testament to his enduring legacy.
